Week 5

This week I expanded my knowledge of Max/MSP. I have had prior experience with Max/MSP, with using external hardware and manipulating MIDI sounds using serial ports, but have never used it to perform actions on video, and so practising in this would be of great benefit.

Week 4

This week I looked at some very old footage of "Man with a Movie Camera" by Vertov. This film's pictures were influenced by the tempo of the background music, by showing various activities that involved different speed of actions (for example people walking being slow, and a car moving being fast tempo).

I also looked into Eyesweb, and did some more in-depth exercises. These exercises involved using input given from the user to affect the output on the display, writing .avi files, and making a basic media player with standard controls (play, pause, stop).

Week 3

This week I looked at CCTV and it's effect on society. I learned that Britain accounts for at least 20% of the world's CCTV cameras (Britain has 4.2 million). I also looked at examples of work by Zbig Rybczynski, and his "CCTV-like" work.

I was also given exercises to complete in Eyesweb.

Week 2

This week I looked at examples of experimental art that has been 'borrowed' by Hollywood. I also looked at a Zoetrope, and got the chance to use one.

I also learned the basics of a video manipulation program I have never used before: Eyesweb. Eyesweb is a piece of software that enables the creation of interactive digital installations that can include live video and pictures.

Week 1

This week I was introduced to the Time Based Imaging module. I also learned the history of TBI, and its evolution over the years. I also looked at examples of work from artists that are considered to be revolutionary and experimental. These artists include: Martin Newth, Bruce Nauman, Vito Acconci and Vuk Cosic.

I also watched "Processing the Signal"...
